On 21st November 1765, the University of Mining and Technology was established as a higher educational institution for mining sciences. After the cataclysm of the Seven Years’ War, the country’s recovery had been advanced through the increasing knowledge of extraction and processing of raw materials. Thanks to the high education and research quality and an innovative conjunction of theory and experience, the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology gained a reputation of a worldwide leading mining sciences educational facility. Today, the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology is the oldest mining sciences academy worldwide.

The ISCM is organised by the Institute of Mining and Special Construction Engineering.
